Hi,
Annie and I will be taking part in Great North Swim which is a one mile open water swim in England’s largest Lake, Windermere. The Swim will take place on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September 2009, attracting over 5,000 swimmers. The money we raise will go to the RNLI so if you wish to sponsor us please visit www.justgiving.com/ruddswim
Thanks,

2009 Open Results

Just a quick note to publish the results. The report will follow later and that responsibility goes to John, but I understand he has delegated this to his crew Helen.

Single Handed Report
23/09/2008 by Col.
The following report was written by Des Barnes for Yachts & Yachting:-
A clean sweep of the top three positions and a strong showing throughout the fleet has invigorated the Snettisham Beach dart sailors with promises of more to come on the GP circuit next year.
With light winds forecast and early starts due to tidal demands resulted in a lower than expected turn-out but local lad Bob Fletcher set the early pace with wins in the first two races, both completed by 10.30am - Bob, a Norfolk farmer, clearly at home with early starts! Guy Playford from Snettisham, Des Barnes from Carsington and Jay Round from Royal Yorkshire taking second, third and fourth in both races in the 14 boat fleet.
Race 3 saw Guy benefit from an unexpected third lap with wind dying and outgoing tide strengthening to take the win, with Bob taking a wrong option and dropping to sixth. Second was Bob’s son Luke and third was the improving Mark Fletcher, Mat Exon keeping the Yorkshire flag flying in fourth. All boats made the beach before the water disappeared, good timing by the race committee.
As expected Sunday dawned windless and misty, but after a two hours a few zephyrs in the bay persuaded the committee to try for one more race. Still improving Mark took the win after a close battle with Guy and Bob.
With four races completed and one discard Bob and Guy had five points each with Bob taking victory due to his two wins over Guy’s one.

2008 Single Handed Nationals Results
21/09/2008 by Col.
This weekend was the first time Snettisham had hosted a national championships and the first time Robert Fletcher has won this event. Commiserations to Guy Playford who despite finishing on the same points once again had us checking Appendix A Rule 8.1 to decide between first and second. The same applied between 3rd and 4th place which went to Mark Fletcher of Snettisham over the first visiting boat Des Barnes from Carsington. It was a great weekend thanks to the sun and lots of help from club members running the event.

Single Handed National Championships - This weekend
18/09/2008 by Col.
OK so thanks to a bit of work by everyone it looks like we’re ready for the first Dart Nationals at Snettisham Beach. Thanks to everyone that has helped to organise and Ann F for the catering although it sounds like Robert owes you!
We know that 5 boats are coming from RYYC but no word from the south yet. If you know anyone that is coming then add it to the dart18.com chat page so that we may convince the last minute deciders to come. The weather looks hot but light winds so Guy’s loosing weight (not drinking!) and Brian wont have to wear that uncomfortable harness.
Jim, did you ever get your wrist out of plaster and I hope you don’t have any more repetitive strain injuries in that area. How did you do it again?
You can download Entry Forms and Sailing Instructions if that helps.
I guess most of us will be down Friday night so I’ll see you in the bar but don’t forget to check out the dart18.com chat page.
Jane, do you want to crew the following weekend?
Colin
PS. Did I say it’s going to be hot!

Up with the Lark?
20/06/2008 by Col.
I know I’ve left it a bit late but is anyone intending to sail tomorrow morning? It’s a 7:45 start and the weather forecast is not the best (rain) but can we believe that.

2008 Dart Open Results (7/8th June)
10/06/2008 by Col.
With Snettisham Beach hosting the Single Handed National Championships later in the year, the Dart Open gave an ideal opportunity for some of the fleet to practice their racing skills for this individual event. The forecast for light showers and a 12 knot wind on Saturday almost came true but the rain was persistent which tested both competitors and race officers William Dickson and Roger Bell over three races. Guy Playford won the first and third race with Robert Fletcher and Ian Clayton taking the second race resulting in a single hander leading at the end of day one.
Sunday was dry and although the wind was forecast to drop, it continued to blow with as some saw it, unpredictable shifts. Guy’s route up the first beat meant that a shift gave him a considerable lead which he held to take the first race making him well placed to win the event. Robert and Ian came back to win the final two races which left both boats on equal points, equal firsts and after a quick check on the rules the event was won by the result of the last race, hence Robert and Ian regained the trophy.
Loosing the event by Appendix A Rule 8.2 was disappointing for Guy but he looks to be a strong contender for the Single Handed Nationals in September.

Beach or FA Cup
16/05/2008 by Col.
Or both if it’s on in the Club but racing starts at 4:00 pm I think. The weather should be better than today so I’m planning on sailing both days. Are you?

Snetdart goes downhill
19/04/2008 by Col.
A massive thanks to Brian for organising the first SnetDart boys weekend skiing trip in the French Alps. I say boys but naturally that included Annie and to make sure she wasn’t the only girl, Helen, Annie’s sister made a group of 11. Conditions for April were excellent and the slopes were not too busy, ideal for John on his first ski trip. John found a steep learning curve on the first day but never looked back after that and the video below is for Bev and Amelia to see what he has been talking about.
Meanwhile, Lee and Tim do it on water …
So I hope to recover from my injuries in the next week or two and then go sailing. Have you got your boats down the beach? When do you intend to sail?
